SHPS Defined Contribution (DC)

This scheme is available to all colleagues. You will be automatically enrolled into the SHPS DC scheme, subject to eligibility criteria.

The contribution rates for colleagues’ auto-enrolled into the Defined Contribution scheme will be:

  • employee contribution 3% salary;
  • our contribution 6% salary.

You can choose to increase your contributions:

We recognise that health and well-motivated colleagues have a positive impact on the productivity and effectiveness of a business, and we want to support you in looking after your own health and wellbeing.

The following elements of our reward package are to support you.

Sick pay

Our sickness absence allowance allows us to provide support to those colleagues who are unwell/unfit for work due to health reasons and therefore unable to come to work.

All colleagues are entitled to receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) on achieving the qualifying criteria according to the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992 and associated regulations. In addition to SSP, LiveWest will pay Occupational Sick Pay (OSP) to colleagues who meet the service criteria. These criteria and payments are set out below:

FlexWay is our approach to working in a flexible manner without the formal need to record working hours. We are keen to support you in balancing your work and home lives, and recognise the many benefits of allowing you to have flexibility with your working day.

Our way of working is based on delivering outcomes rather than spending time on recording hours or completing timesheets, and working to core hours.

What does this mean for you?

FlexWay means different things to different people, as it depends on the business requirements of each team and directorate.

Colleagues are expected to understand and are trusted to know when they are required to be in the business and what they need to achieve in order to ensure business needs are met. We support you in working flexibly around these obligations.


Car allowance

If your role is eligible for a car allowance you will receive this based on the correct level for your role. Part time colleagues will have their car allowance pro-rated accordingly. The amount you will receive will be confirmed when you are offered a role.

On top of your car allowance, if applicable, you will receive an essential user mileage rate. For all other colleagues who travel infrequently, we offer a non-essential user mileage rate.

Passenger allowance

We want to encourage car sharing and reduce the number of unnecessary multiple journeys for business related travel. This will support our environmental responsibilities and reduce our carbon footprint, which is in line with our travel strategy. We have introduced a passenger allowance to support this.

What is the passenger allowance?

You can claim a passenger allowance of 8p per mile for passengers getting a lift with a colleague who is claiming business miles – this is in addition to the existing allowance which is paid to the driver.

Simply Health

Looking after your health is the most important thing you can do to achieve your full potential and feel your best both at home and in work. At LiveWest we provide a health care cash plan to all colleagues to help you cover the costs of your day to day healthcare and support you in leading a healthy lifestyle.

What is a health care cash plan?

Health care cash plans are designed to help with everyday health care costs and offer cash payments for a variety of health care needs such as dental, optical and physiotherapy to name but a few. Unlike private health insurance there is no need for pre-authorisation before you can take advantage of the cover.

All health care plans are classed as a benefit and therefore taxable, however the premium is covered by us in full.

What does this mean for you?

You will be automatically enrolled into a health care cash plan with Level 1 cover paid for by us. Our IMS and some field based estate colleagues receive Level 5 cover - you will receive confirmation of your level once you join us.

You can opt to upgrade your policy and pay to increase the level of cover for which you are able to claim. Many of the other levels include cover for your partner, and for children up to the age of 23.

Extra benefits for you

Alongside all the great benefits that the plan offers, please also be aware that you can access additional services with 'MyWellbeing’ that includes the following:

  • Speak to a GP anytime, anywhere 24/7 or webcam a GP. You can also have private prescription medication delivered to your home from the GP helpline.
  • Access discounts towards gym memberships, sports equipment and days out 2,000+ and growing (provided by Incopore). 
  • Keep your health in check with health evaluation tools.


At LiveWest we are all entitled to up to four days paid volunteering a year, to support you in giving something back in our communities.

We really value volunteering, as not only does it produce fantastic benefits to our communities but it’s also recognised as a great way of improving your own wellbeing. It’s a great chance to do something completely different and meet our customers, new people and other colleagues from across the business.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

Our EAP scheme through Life & Progress is a confidential telephone helpline available 24/7 to help colleagues and their family deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their health and wellbeing.

This valuable benefit is provided as part of our health care cash plan and provides immediate support to address issues such as stress or anxiety, bereavement, persistent ill health or help to improve resilience to everyday issues that you may encounter.

Cycle to work scheme

Interested in getting a bike and cycling to work? Make the most of our available cycle to work scheme. We have a cycle scheme available for all permanent colleagues that have been at LiveWest for 12 months.

The cycle scheme enables you to get a bike tax-free, saving at least 23% of the cost. It is completely hassle free with 12 months of payments coming directly out of your salary.

How does it work?

Choose a bike and certain safety equipment at a participating shop. LiveWest then buys the bike and equipment through Cycle Scheme and loans the bike to you. You then repay the loan through a monthly salary sacrifice.

The loan amount is not subject to tax and national insurance contributions. After the loan period of 12 months you may be given the option to buy the bike for a nominal fee.

Annual Leave

Annual leave is important in helping colleagues to achieve a good work-life balance. Here is the holiday allowance for our colleagues, in addition to eight bank holidays. Please note this is pro-rata for part time colleagues and calculated in hours.

Your holiday allowance automatically moves to the number of annual leave days for your length of service. You need to complete one full annual leave year before you gain an additional day.

Buying annual leave

All colleagues have the opportunity to buy annual leave at LiveWest. This provides you with the added flexibility of planning your time off work. Further information will be provided when you join the business.

Hours and overtime

Hours of work

Full time contracted hours are 37 hours a week. If you are contracted to work less than 37 hours a week, you are considered to be part time. Your salary, annual leave and any other related terms, conditions and benefits are adjusted accordingly.


We encourage flexible working where possible and overtime is normally used as a last resort within the business, and always subject to manager authorisation in advance.

For overtime to be payable, colleagues must have worked their full time contractual week of 37 hours. Any part time colleagues working overtime must have worked 37 hours before the hourly rate is increased. Overtime is paid one month arrears i.e. January hours are paid in February.

For all colleagues overtime will be paid at the flat rate if you are working before 7am or after 7pm, time and half on Saturdays and double time for Sunday or Bank Holiday working.
